CAMPAIGN FOR CLEMENCY

“What can I do to help?”

Your concern and participation in this campaign for clemency may help to free 3 American soldiers; MSG John E. Hatley, SFC Joseph P. Mayo and SGT Michael Leahy Jr.

Ways to help:

*Donate or help fundraise for the legal defense fund for John Hatley (located on home page).

and/or

*Compose a letter on behalf of “all 3 of our heroes” (please mention all their names), then (faxing) and/or (mailing) it to all your state representatives, the president himself, other public figures and media sources as in;  news networks, Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh, the Senate Arms Committee, the Army Leaders at the Pentagon, etc…

Yes.  There is a tragic pattern of “political correctness” and flawed policy regarding  ”detainee catch and release” for our service members, not only in Iraq, but also in Afghanistan.  As most of you will learn, there are other soldiers/troops out there who have or are currently experiencing injustices.  (See ‘POSTS’ found to the right of this page, to read further.)

[Please see sample letter below.  Permission has been granted by Mr. Jim Myers to have his letter displayed as a sample for the Cause.  Mr. Myers is also a Veteran.  Thank you sir for your assistance and thank you for your service to our country.]

Mr. Jim Myers recently decided to reword his initial letter and below is the most recent draft.  He gives expressed permission for anyone to use his letter, edit or make additions for ease of writing one up yourself to submit.  Mr. Myers also welcomes you to contact him:  jim.myers@vertizon.net   Home # (310) 455-2270  Cell # (310) 795-5772

________________________________________________________________________________- (Appropriate greeting here, who ever you are addressing this letter to),

The Anderson Cooper 360 Special “Army Canal Killings, Murder or Battlefield Justice” 11/17-11/22/09, brought to light the release of 77,000 of the 87,000 enemy combatants captured so far on the Middle East battlefield.  The policy of catch and release responsible for this, which requires unreasonable amounts of evidence collected on the battlefield, must be changed so that detainees are kept for the duration of the wars, rather than be released to get a second shot at killing Americans and our Allies.

Many say this catch and release policy was designed on a “politically correct” theory to show the locals that we are not occupiers and we do not want to intrude on their lives.  Unfortunately, this flawed policy has resulted in death and injury to our service members in Iraq and Afganistan by these second chancers.

Now that President Obama has stated  “We Are At War”, We must detain POWS till the wars are over.  This will clear the battlefield, and they won’t get a second shot at  killing Americans and our Allies.  It’s easier and safer for our troops to guard them in POW camps, than have to fight them a second time.

I urge you to use your high office and influence to change the detainee release policies.

Furthermore, I request you arrange the freeing from prison MSG John Hatley, SFC Joseph Mayo, SGT Michael P. Leahy Jr., as well as any other service personnel imprisoned for violation of this flawed no win policy.  Reinstate their military benefits and service.  These Americans took action to save the lives of fellow Soldiers and Marines, to save the precious blood of our young men and women in uniform.

Sincerely,

James E. Myers

[In addition to faxing the above letter to the president, Mr. Myers has also faxed the letter to Senator Feinstein, Senator Boxer, Congressmen Henry Waxman and Brad Sherman, as well as to the Secretary of Defense Gates, Secretary of the Army John McHugh (Congressman Waxman's office forwarded it, since no fax# for Secretary McHugh is available.]  Thank you Mr. Myers!!

As reported on CNN:   The military released 77,000 of about 87,000 detainees locked up during the Iraq war because there was not enough evidence to hold them.
