MSG John Hatley was initially sentenced to “life in prison with the possibility of parole” (April 16th, 2009 in Vilseck, Germany – location of the trial).
CURRENT SENTENCE STATUS: The initial sentence has since been reduced (on August 7th, 2009 by the convening authority, Colonel Charles A. Preysler) only to “40 years” in prison, which is still a life sentence….. John Hatley was reduced to E-1 and dishonorably discharged. John is now 41 years old.
CURRENT (In-prison) CLEMENCY STATUS: On April 1, 2010 in Alexandria, Virginia, the ACPB – Army Clemency and Parole Board will recieve John Hatley’s Clemency packet for review by the Board Members. We will know the results of this board approximately 2 weeks later.
-UPDATE-
* * * * [John's Clemency result came back: DENIED. We will continue to push forward and after all, our real hopes lay with the Appeals process, which the "open court" will take place sometime in Aug/Sep time-frame this year. Anyone can attend this open court hearing, in Alexandria, Virginia. Plse contact Mrs. Hatley for further details. Click on "CONTACT" in header of this website. - Thank you] This update was added here today, April 12th 2010 (Monday) at 1:25 pm CST Zone. * * * *
CURRENT APPEALS STATUS: (As of March 31st, 2010) The Appeals Process has begun and it is a lengthy process that may take anywhere from a year or more, at this point. March 31st, the Appeals packet was filed (submitted) to the first level of the Appeallit process. The prosecution (government) can hold onto this packet to argue and scrutinize for up to 3 months, before it can be argued in the open court with our defense JAG attorneys. Right now, it’s just an approximation that Aug/Sept time frame may be when the open court is held. If the prosecution (government) chooses to hold onto the packet for longer, they can do that, but must submit a reason, which would lengthen our wait, but we shall see. That is always a possibility, but hopefully they won’t. If any changes or updates occur, I will post those changes here on this page. The hope is that an opportunity for a retrial will be made available, full exoneration and/or a reduction in his current sentence. -This Appeals update has been added at 5:45 pm on Friday, May 7th 2010 by Mrs. Hatley

Our prayers are with John and his family.
The men and women in our military are the cream of the American crop.
The people in control of our military are the DUNG of the earth. Our commander-in-chief, our state department and many in high command are traitors serving a global agenda to establish a New World Order.
And John, like all others serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, are nothing but pawns in a game to these people.
May God intervene on John’s behalf.
Can we write a letter to these BRUTAL MILITARY PROSECUTORS ON BEHALF OF THIS BRAVE SOLDER JOHN HATLEY?
If so, where is the address please?
Thank you!
I am BEYOND DISGUSTED AND ANGRY over these outrageous prison sentences given to our own soldiers! Political correctness GONE WILD!!!
These men are/were serving in a WAR ZONE. What about WAR do they not understand?
The objective of any WAR: KILL THE ENEMY
Stop PLAYING GAMES WITH OUR FINE AMERICAN SOLDIERS!
If you don’t want our soldiers TO KILL THE ENEMY, BRING THEM HOME NOW you lunatic politicians!!!
These kinds of “backward injustices” only serves TO EMBOLDEN OUR ENEMY. You prosecutors are idiots and very UN-AMERICAN. You don’t deserve to live in the freedoms of America!
I find this whole act of punishment and action on John and his fellow soldiers ludicrous!
These men were trained, told what to do and after they did their jobs diligently and professionally, they were ‘thrown away’, like old toys. TOO many of our brave soldiers are treated as John is now. HE has lost so much, has sacrificed his own life for OUR country, the way he’s been asked to do over and over again…..and he gets this. Four lonely walls to look at, his honor, integrity, and pride he has for us, his American family, his OWN FAMILY taken away…why should politics come in between these brave soldiers fighting to keep US free from harm, and fighting for civilians in other torn countries, and the job he has done? WAKE UP, and QUIT prosecuting and TRYING to prosecute the very ones who sign up for war against terrorists! They are the only ones standing in between the terrorists and America. Keep doing this, and see where America stands….right along there with the countries who have no freedom and are over-run BY terrorists!
FREE this young man! He has done NOTHING wrong- in fact, he’s done EVERTHING right……the audacity! It just makes me sick to see what we’re putting our brave soldiers through after they’ve fought so hard to do the right things. America- get your head out of the sand!
